National Standards for Personal, Social and Employability Qualifications

Closed 20 May 2024

Opened 25 Mar 2024

Overview

As part of qualifications reforms in Post -16 education in England, we are seeking to improve Personal, Social and Employability qualifications (PSEQs) (including Independent Living qualifications).

This consultation presents the new National Standards we have developed, alongside proposals on how they should be used to create new qualifications.

We are seeking views about the suitability of the standards to support students to gain sustainable employment, progress in education or develop independent living skills. We are also seeking feedback on the supporting proposals.

Why your views matter

These qualifications serve a range of students, both young people and adults, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and those from income-deprived backgrounds. They are also important to employers as a sign of work-readiness.

To improve student outcomes, we have drafted new National Standards with a panel of experts including employers, educators and organisations representing the students who take PSEQs.

We need your views to ensure that these proposals work for all students who take them.
