Funding the education sector for teacher pensions increases

Closed 12 Feb 2019

Opened 15 Jan 2019

The valuations used to calculate the employer contributions to the Teacher Pensions Scheme changed. This considers which sectors to fund.

Why your views matter

This consultation seeks views on the Department for Education’s proposal to support certain education institutions with the increase to the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) in 2019-20.

DfE’s proposal is to fund:

  1. Schools that receive public funding
  2. Further Education Colleges and other public-funded training organisations.

The Department would like to use this consultation to understand the impact on these institutions, and on other affected institutions, and welcomes responses from: TPS employers; teachers and other staff; and sector bodies.

The consultation closes on 12 February 2019.

What happens next

Thank you for your time in responding to this consultation. We are now reading all responses and will first collate then publish them in a Government Response where we will set out our additional actions, if any, in this space. We expect to publish a response in March 2019.
